The system is comprised of twelve GEO M10 speakers and three L20 subwoofers in a cardioid setup. Four NEXO ID24 speakers were added to the front edge of the stage to complete the audio picture of the front rows of seats. These installation model speakers, like the other speakers in the system, are equipped with fabric-covered front grilles.

The ID24 speakers ended up in the original order to ensure that the sound coverage would be as even as possible, and the sound direction would be correct even in the middle front row seats. The amplifiers are NXAMP4x4MK2 and NXAMP4x2MK2, and the system is controlled by the manufacturer’s NeMo software. In addition, two Nexo P10 loudspeakers were installed for rear/surround use.

Poleeni had already received six Nexo P12 speakers and an NXAMP4x2MK2 amplifier, which were integrated into the complete setup.

The installation was completed together with Poleeni’s technical staff. At the time of commissioning, the staff was trained in the use of the system by Minka Matikainen, Technical Specialist at Electro Waves.

A comprehensive and technically challenging implementation

The largest mechanical and lighting facilities at Marsio are the Stage, a large exhibition space, the Event Studio, a state-of-the-art production and research facility, the Digital Studio, and a 150-seat cinema.

The SIXTY82 TPM series of Middle Beam truss structures installed in the premises can be moved by means of GIS chain hoists controlled by digital OutBoard joysticks. The D8+-rated chain hoist control system includes a total of 149 channels and is divided into four dedicated control units, where the controllers connected by ethernet cabling are controlled by Outboard’s 64-channel RCX remote controllers.

The RCX-based system enables the implementation of multi-channel control cabling using a single ethernet cable. In addition, RCX remote controls can record the working time of the chain-driven controllers’ control units, which assist the user in the use of the light fixtures in working conditions during an event. All mobile hoist structures are equipped with cable management, through which the production and electrical cabling is brought to the truss junction boxes.

Certainty and efficiency through preparation

The scale of the mechanical project at Marsio was significant and required careful advance planning and a great deal of preparations. The 72 cables installed in the premises were handmade and fitted with various cables, connectors and junction boxes at Electro Waves’ production facilities in Espoo.

This enabled all cables and fibres to be measured and documented before delivery, ensuring functionality and significantly saving installation time at the site.

“The project was professionally managed by Electro Waves and implemented within the agreed timetable,” says Korhonen. “Any uncertainties and specifications that arose during the project were always solved in good faith. In addition, Project Manager Joonas Jylhä succeeded well in his task, which is crucial for the success of a project this large and complex.

High-quality lighting and control systems

The project delivery included cinema and performance/stage lighting equipment covering all production areas (Creamsource, Desisti, Robe, Chauvet, Astera, Cameo, Aputure) with all accessories (Admiral, Doughty, Powertex).

The sACN lighting control network of the production facilities was built around Luminex products and users were provided with event lighting control using grandMA egg candling tables. In addition, on a per-space basis, users are provided with wireless lighting control applications with pre-programmed files stored on Visual Productions storage devices, which enables versatile daily use.

“The three-level control model, where the lights are controlled with QSC, Blackout App or grandMA, works very well,” says Korhonen with satisfaction.

The Luminex lighting control network covers the entire large and small production areas of the building, including 11 switches, 120 nodes and the Araneo network management system for the configuration of the entire system.

A comprehensive delivery and successful cooperation

In addition to the large multi-purpose event spaces, Marsio is also equipped with several smaller facilities, such as self-service, virtual, smart stage, multi-purpose, experimental, greenhouse and test studios 1 & 2. The delivery also included a significant quantity of equipment, supplies and trusses for the takeout point for the user’s diverse teaching, testing and production needs.

The project package included all the tasks from project management and design to installation, programming, testing, commissioning, training and documentation. The total schedule was six months, and the project was handed over to the final customer for in-house and trial operation in September 2024. The final acceptance by the customer without comments took place after a three-month test period in December 2024.

The facilities are in full use and have received accolades

Marsio’s facilities have been excellently utilised for a wide range of events, research and educational uses. “The feedback from users has been excellent,” says Korhonen. “The Aalto Studios, Aalto Communications and Aalto premises team was awarded the Aalto Act of the Year award for Marsio’s first year in September 2025.”

Electro Waves supplied the XR Multipurpose Studio with wash lights, which can be used to change the colour and atmosphere of the space, general and accent lights, and the light control system. The contract also included the preliminary programming of the light system, as well as training in the use of the control system.

In the mechanics contract, great cooperation with good partners benefited the customer through prices, quality and innovative solutions. The tendering material for mechanics was drawn up by Akukon Oy, Electro Waves handled the implementation design and implemented the systems of both studies in cooperation with JDR Rigging Oy and Espoon HT Teknocenter Oy.

In connection with the mechanics contract, equipment was delivered to the XR Show/Demo Studio and the XR Multipurpose Studio. The contract included chain hoists with control centres, beam clamps for suspending the chain hoists, cabling, a 4-point truss system and a cable management system with junction boxes for the trusses. Safety and the load-bearing capacity of the structures are of the utmost importance in a project of this nature, so the necessary structural calculations (Structural Report) for the suspension system were carried out through an independent external operator, ensuring that the performance figures and load-bearing capacity of the suspension structures were in accordance with the plans.

Lauri Wilén is an AV architect who is responsible for the design and procurement of presentation technology at Metropolia. He says about the mechanical solutions: “The most noteworthy technical solution is that the user is able to easily and seamlessly adjust the height of the trusses to the desired level according to need and use. This enables the installation of new equipment, supplies and lights in the future, when the need arises”. Wilén is also very satisfied with the cooperation with Electro Waves: “The project progressed from order to deployment in a very exemplary manner and well on schedule, even though the prevailing global situation caused minor delays from time to time. It is worth noting that the installation contract could be carried out in such a way that the user was also able to have activities in the facilities during the work, meaning that the work site operated really efficiently”.

“Electro Waves was selected as our partner through a bidding competition. The company emerged as the clear winner of the tender, as they had to offer exactly the solution we were looking for.” says Risto Huostila, Telia’s Real Estate Manager, who was responsible for the entire, gigantic construction project.

Huostila says that the construction project lasted altogether for nearly two years and as significant AV solutions were made, Electro Waves was involved almost from the beginning. Huostila is pleased with the cooperation with the AV -solution provider and  praises Electro Waves’ approach: “The cooperation went well, the professionals knew what they were doing and they always suggested a workable solution”.

Screens and eye-catching LED walls in all spaces are Samsung products. “At Samsung, price and quality meet, and all products were given good warranties, which increased confidence in the operator,” says Huostila.

Tripla’s construction site was like a small town where everyone had an important role to play. Up to 1,500 employees worked on the site, so it was important that the installers of the AV solutions knew their job and worked on schedule. “One important factor in the success of the project was also that Electro Waves really invested in the project and had a sufficient number of professionals to do it,” says Huostila and continues: “the big picture is the sum of many parts, and Electro Waves played a big role in that everything works seamlessly and securely ”.

Telia is one of the country’s largest telecommunications companies, so technology must work reliably in every space. “Functional, modern solutions are essential for a company like us” sums up the property manager, who is pleased with the project, and continues: “The feedback we received has been mostly three-letter. Those letters have been WOW ”- that is, that famous wow effect has been achieved with good design, the latest technology and millimeter-accurate implementation.
